LINOCUTS – “PULSATIONS ON IMPRINTS”

The Rhodes Art Park presents in its exhibition space the printmaking exhibition of Panos Pristouris titled: “PULSATIONS ON IMPRINTS.” The exhibition features selected linocuts – monotypes of various dimensions, created during the past academic year.

Panos Pristouris’ recent work explores the concept of form, texture, and plasticity. As a continuation of his previous solo exhibition titled “IMPRINTS OF TRUST,” linear patterns are repeated, but now there is a greater emphasis on texture and the plasticity of volume, which emerges through the combination of patterns and colors. Through the creative process of engraving, inking, and printing, dots and lines gain energy, vibrancy, and emphasize motion.

In most of the works, two linoleum plates are printed in parallel, creating a visual, dynamic, and potentially auditory landscape. The intrigue arises when the combination of the two plates generates a new mesh of intersecting curved lines as a new imprint, unique in its kind. This imprint varies depending on the colors chosen for each print and the type of paper on which the printmaking artwork is printed. The aim is to convey to the viewer the concepts of illusion and visual deception. For this reason, the artworks vary in size and color. An interesting element is the paper used for printing, as it references the negative and positive space of the design, especially when using black and white printing paper respectively.

Finally, the color of the lines is based on active and acoustically vibrating grids perceived when one is in a state of ecstasy, euphoria, and communion, experiencing intense emotions and creating imprints of a continually shifting trust — both in ourselves and in others.
